Introduction The physiography of Tripura is characterised by a predominantly hilly landscape, parallel hill ranges, intervening valleys, undulating uplands and low-lying alluvial plains. Tripura forms part of the Indo-Burman or Purvanchal fold mountain system and represents the western fringe of a structural ridge-and-valley province. The state's physical landscape is particularly important for understanding its drainage, agriculture, forests, settlement pattern, soil distribution and transportation network .
