Northeast India is a place of heavy rainfall, high relative humidity, and high-temperature cause rapid weathering of rocks. As the weathering of surface rocks of the hills and mountains proceeds, the sheet flood caused by heavy rainfall removes the weathered materials and carries them down to the headward steams of the rivers.  The rapidly flowing rivers then carry the sediments, big and small, down to the foothills and plains.

Physiography of Northeast India | Physiographic Divisions

Karbi Anglong Plateau of Assam | Karbi Anglong District

Karbi Anglong Plateau or Karbi-Plateau is the only plateau of Assam and is situated in the Karbi Anglong district of Assam. The Karbi Anglong Plateau, which is the easternmost part of the north-eastward projection of Gondwanaland lies almost detached from the Meghalayan Plateau due to headward erosion of the Kopili and Dhansiri River and their tributaries.
